The United States has extended congratulations to Fiji on the occasion of its 55th anniversary of independence. In a statement, the U.S. Secretary of State acknowledged the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
"For more than half a century, the United States and Fiji have worked together to ensure prosperity, peace, and security in the Indo-Pacific. The United States appreciates Fiji’s regional leadership and commitment to our shared priorities, and we look forward to continuing our long friendship."
The message concluded with well wishes for Fiji's national celebration: "I wish you a prosperous and joyous Fiji Day."
Fiji gained independence in 1970. Since then, both countries have maintained diplomatic relations and have cooperated on regional issues.
