President Donald J. Trump has issued a proclamation marking October 11, 2025, as General Pulaski Memorial Day. The annual observance honors Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski, a Polish nobleman who played a key role in the American Revolutionary War.
Pulaski is remembered for his commitment to liberty and his contributions to the formation of the American cavalry. The proclamation recounts how Pulaski fought for independence in Poland before joining the American cause at Benjamin Franklin's urging. According to President Trump, “I came here, where freedom is being defended, to serve it, and to live or die for it.”
The document details Pulaski’s actions during the Battle of Brandywine, where he led a cavalry maneuver that protected General George Washington and members of the Continental Army. It notes that without Pulaski’s efforts, “the dream of American independence might have ended before it truly began.”
Pulaski later became Brigadier General and led a cavalry corps noted for its discipline and bravery. He died from wounds sustained during the Siege of Savannah on October 9, 1779.
President Trump highlighted that Pulaski’s sacrifice helped establish enduring ties between Poland and the United States. He said these bonds have persisted through major historical events including World War II and the Cold War.
“As our Nation prepares to celebrate 250 years of independence, we remember General Pulaski and all those who dared to stake their lives on the American promise,” Trump stated.
The proclamation concludes: “NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America... do hereby proclaim October 11, 2025, as General Pulaski Memorial Day. I encourage all Americans to commemorate on this occasion those who have contributed to the furthering of our Nation.”
