Kenz Henz, based in Santa Fe, Texas, has announced a recall of its 12-count packages of "Grade AA Large Pasture Raised eggs" due to the potential presence of Salmonella. The bacteria can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms for healthy people may include fever, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, Salmonella infection can lead to more severe conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, or arthritis.
The recalled eggs were distributed in retail stores located in Houston, Texas. The affected products are packaged in 12-count cartons with UPC code 86949400030. The specific cartons involved have Julian dates ranging from 241 (August 30) to 244 (September 2) and from 246 (September 4) to 247 (September 5). Best by dates on these cartons are between October 11 and October 14 and between October 16 and October 17.
No illnesses have been reported so far related to this issue.
An update provided on September 29, 2025 states that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted an inspection at Black Sheep Egg Company’s egg processing facility and collected environmental samples. Of the samples collected, forty tested positive for Salmonella across seven different strains. Some of these strains are known to cause illness in humans. According to the FDA, there is currently no information indicating that this facility is linked to an ongoing outbreak.
