Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) expressed concerns over the impact of the government shutdown on nuclear innovation. Ted Ellis, Campaign Director of Power America and Deputy Director of Energy and Environment at AFPI, highlighted the issue in a statement.

Ellis pointed out that "American innovation is being stalled by Washington politics during this government shutdown." He emphasized that advanced nuclear projects, such as TerraPower's Natrium plant, are now facing uncertainty due to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's inability to operate fully. This situation threatens to delay the development of affordable and reliable energy crucial for future technologies.

Ellis criticized bureaucratic delays that hinder private-sector efforts to secure America's energy and technological future, calling it a critical national security issue. He also accused certain members of Congress of using the shutdown as leverage to prioritize federal spending on issues like healthcare for illegal aliens over advancing American innovation and protecting national security.

He urged lawmakers to "reopen the government and put the future of the American people and the nation first."
