The governments of Argentina, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States have released a joint statement congratulating Rodrigo Paz Pereira on his election as President of Bolivia.
"We also commend the Bolivian people for their unwavering commitment to democracy, as demonstrated through their active participation in this electoral process," the statement reads.
The statement notes that on October 19, Bolivians voted decisively, and the result is seen as a sign of the country's desire for change. The governments said this marks "a departure from the economic mismanagement of the past two decades."
The countries expressed readiness to support Bolivia's new administration in efforts to stabilize the economy, strengthen democratic institutions, increase international trade and investment, and deepen engagement with regional and global partners.
"We are committed to working closely with President-elect Rodrigo Paz Pereira and his government to advance shared goals of regional and global security, economic prosperity, and growth that benefit all our nations," the statement says.
The signatories also encouraged Bolivia to take an active role in addressing regional and global challenges.
