A Portland woman, Lisa Miyamoto, 56, appeared in federal court following allegations that she assaulted a federal law enforcement officer near a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in South Portland.
Federal authorities state that on October 19, 2025, officers were clearing the vehicle entrance at the ICE facility when Miyamoto allegedly struck an officer with a wooden tambourine. She was subsequently arrested at the scene.
Since June 13, 2025, the United States Attorney’s Office has charged 36 individuals with federal crimes related to incidents near ICE facilities. These charges include assaulting federal officers, failure to comply with orders, and damaging government property.
Miyamoto has been charged by criminal complaint with the felony offense of assaulting a federal officer. She appeared before a U.S. Magistrate Judge and was released on conditions while awaiting further court proceedings.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, felony assault of a federal officer carries a maximum sentence of eight years in federal prison.
Authorities emphasize that “a criminal complaint is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.”
