U.S. corn stocks as of September 1, 2025, fell to 1.53 billion bushels, marking a 13% decrease from the same date last year, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Soybean stocks were also down 8% from a year ago, while wheat stocks increased by 6%.

Of the total corn stocks, 643 million bushels were stored on farms, which is an 18% decrease from last year. Off-farm corn stocks stood at 888 million bushels, down 10%. The disappearance of corn from June to August 2025 was reported at 3.11 billion bushels, compared to 3.23 billion bushels during the same period last year.

The report also included routine revisions to the previous season’s production estimates for corn and soybeans. Both 2024 corn and soybean production figures were revised upward slightly from earlier estimates.

Total wheat stocks in all positions on September 1, 2025, were 2.12 billion bushels, a 6% increase from the previous year. On-farm wheat stocks were estimated at 692 million bushels, up 4%, and off-farm stocks reached 1.43 billion bushels, up 7%. Wheat disappearance for the June-August 2025 period was 715 million bushels, 5% higher than last year.

Durum wheat stocks in all positions totaled 71.1 million bushels, up 6%. On-farm stocks for durum wheat rose 9% to 51.5 million bushels, while off-farm stocks declined 3% to 19.6 million bushels. Disappearance of durum wheat from June to August 2025 increased by 27% to 43.0 million bushels compared to the same period last year.

NASS conducted separate surveys for on-farm and off-farm stocks during the first half of September as part of the preparation for the Grain Stocks report. The agency also released its Small Grains Annual Summary report, which showed that total wheat production in 2025 reached 1.98 billion bushels, a slight increase from the revised total for 2024. The area harvested for grain was 37.2 million acres, a 4% decrease from the previous year, while the average yield rose 4% to 53.3 bushels per acre.

Production levels by type showed winter wheat at 1.40 billion bushels (up 3%), other spring wheat at 497 million bushels (down 9%), and durum wheat at 86.2 million bushels (up 8%).
