Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence John K. Hurley has started a trip to Europe and the Middle East, focusing on implementing President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign against Iran. The visit aims to strengthen partnerships in the region and increase measures that prevent terrorist groups from accessing the global financial system.

According to the Treasury Department, Hurley’s agenda includes meetings with officials in Israel, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Türkiye, and Lebanon. The purpose is to coordinate efforts on enforcing United Nations sanctions that were reimposed due to Iran not meeting its international obligations.

“President Trump has made clear that Iran’s destabilizing and terrorist activities must be met with sustained and coordinated pressure,” said Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence John K. Hurley. “I look forward to meeting with our partners to coordinate our efforts to deny Tehran and its proxies the financial access they rely on to evade international sanctions, fund violence, and undermine stability in the region."

In Israel, discussions will focus on joint efforts related to President Trump’s pressure campaign on Iran, especially targeting Iranian regional proxies. In the UAE, talks will emphasize the partnership between the two countries in fighting money laundering and terrorism financing. Hurley plans to highlight how stronger controls over illicit finance can support both economic ties between the U.S. and UAE as well as reinforce the UAE's role as a global financial hub.

In Türkiye, conversations are expected to center on cooperation aimed at stopping regional malign influences and preventing sanctions evasion. There will also be an emphasis on ensuring that illicit finance controls are robustly implemented with effective enforcement.

Hurley's engagements are part of ongoing efforts by the U.S. government to enforce international measures intended to restrict Iran's ability to support destabilizing activities through access to financial systems.
