The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalized its Interim Record of Decision (IROD) for the Tinkham Garage Superfund Site in Londonderry, New Hampshire. This decision involves extending the municipal water line to specific neighborhoods where groundwater is used as a drinking source. The plan includes connecting homes affected or potentially affected by contaminants that were not previously linked to the existing water line.

In 2018, harmful substances such as 1,4-dioxane and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were detected in groundwater at the site and nearby wells. These levels pose a risk to human health and the environment. Monitoring has been ongoing since then, with bottled water provided as a temporary solution for households exceeding federal or state standards.

The EPA's selection of a new remedial alternative marks a significant change from previous plans, following public feedback. The IROD and related documents are accessible online at www.epa.gov/superfund/tinkham or can be viewed at Leach Library in Londonderry.

The Tinkham Garage Superfund Site spans approximately 375 acres and includes residential areas like Woodland Village Condominium complex and several neighborhoods along Mercury Drive, McAllister Drive, Gilcreast Road, and others.
