President Donald J. Trump has issued a proclamation recognizing November 11, 2025, as Veterans Day. In the statement, President Trump highlighted the role of veterans in American history, saying their "unyielding spirit has carried our Nation through every trial and triumph, ensuring that liberty endures for all time." He emphasized the country's obligation to support those who have served.

Trump noted that from the founding of the nation, there was an understanding that "freedom rests upon those willing to defend it," referencing early legislative efforts to care for wounded and disabled veterans. He criticized previous political leadership for failing to deliver adequate benefits related to healthcare, housing, and employment for veterans but stated his administration had made improvements: "Under my leadership, the Federal Government will no longer betray these heroes."

The proclamation referenced reforms during Trump's first term affecting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), including expanded healthcare choices and new legislation aimed at increasing accountability within the VA. According to Trump, "We have opened 16 new veteran health clinics throughout the country, made it easier for veterans to pass on their benefits to their survivors, and ended DEI and transgender policies so we can use taxpayer dollars on programs that help veterans in need." He also reported a reduction in the backlog of pending VA benefit claims by more than 37 percent.

Trump mentioned an executive order signed in May establishing a National Center for Warrior Independence with plans to house up to 6,000 homeless veterans by 2028. Additionally, he cited passage of legislation referred to as the One Big Beautiful Bill which makes permanent tax cuts from 2017 and ends taxes on Social Security income for most seniors.

He concluded by urging Americans to honor service members: "I encourage all Americans to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of our veterans through public ceremonies and private thoughts and prayers of gratitude. I call upon Federal, State, and local officials to display the flag of the United States and to participate in patriotic activities in their communities."
