Secretary Rubio meets with Syrian and Turkish foreign ministers following White House visit

Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan after the recent visit of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to the White House. The meeting focused on ways to improve regional stability and security, as well as ongoing counterterrorism initiatives.

According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, "They discussed opportunities to strengthen regional stability and security, and ongoing counterterrorism efforts, including Syria joining the D-ISIS Coalition as its 90th member. They also discussed ongoing efforts to locate missing Americans in Syria. The Secretary underscored President Trump’s commitment to give the Syrian people a chance at peace and prosperity and the importance of regional partnership to support Syria’s efforts to rebuild."

The talks included discussions about Syria's new membership in the D-ISIS Coalition, which now has 90 members. Efforts to find missing Americans in Syria were also addressed during the meeting.

The U.S. Secretary emphasized the current administration's dedication to supporting peace for Syrians and highlighted how cooperation among countries in the region is important for reconstruction efforts in Syria.
