Philadelphia man receives ten-year sentence for armed carjacking

Kysime Brown, a 21-year-old Philadelphia resident, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his involvement in a violent armed carjacking. United States Attorney David Metcalf announced the sentence, which also includes five years of supervised release and an order to pay $42,909 in restitution. The sentencing was handed down by United States District Judge Paul S. Diamond.

Brown was indicted in August 2023 on charges of carjacking and using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. He pleaded guilty to both charges on March 12, 2024.

According to court documents and Brown’s own admissions, the incident occurred in the early morning hours of July 11, 2023. Brown and two accomplices approached a 26-year-old man who had just parked near his home in Northeast Philadelphia. The group pointed semiautomatic pistols at the victim at close range before pistol-whipping him, stealing his cell phone, and fleeing with his Dodge Charger.

Philadelphia police quickly located the stolen vehicle and pursued it. During their attempt to escape, Brown and his co-defendants crashed into another vehicle and struck a pole on Castor Avenue. The Dodge Charger caught fire and was destroyed. Police apprehended all three suspects at the scene.

Brown’s co-defendants have also faced legal consequences. Emmanuel Sia pleaded guilty and is scheduled for sentencing on October 16. Leevah Mills pleaded guilty as well and received a sentence of over 11 years in prison last month.

The investigation was conducted by the Philadelphia Police Department and the FBI. Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski prosecuted the case.

The release of this information was delayed due to the federal government shutdown from October 1, 2025, to November 12, 2025.
