The United States and Argentina have announced progress toward a new framework designed to strengthen trade and investment ties between the two countries. President Donald J. Trump and President Javier Milei released a joint statement affirming their commitment to a strategic alliance based on shared democratic values, free enterprise, private initiative, and open markets.
According to the statement, both nations have agreed on a Framework for an Agreement on Reciprocal Trade and Investment. The goal of this framework is to encourage long-term economic growth, increase opportunities, and create a transparent environment for commerce and innovation governed by clear rules.
The announcement notes that the agreement builds upon recent steps taken by Argentina to update its trade and investment policies with the aim of ensuring mutual benefits. Both governments plan to finalize the text of the agreement quickly so it can be signed and processed through their respective domestic procedures before coming into effect.
Ongoing cooperation will be managed through regular reviews under existing structures such as the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement as well as the Innovation and Creativity Forum for Economic Development.
"The outcome reflects the countries’ shared ambition and values, and builds on actions Argentina has already taken to modernize its trade and investment regime and foster reciprocal conditions."
