A Mexican national has been sentenced for illegally re-entering the United States after being previously removed. Eric Vasquez-Gomez, 24, was found to have entered the country unlawfully following an earlier deportation.

On October 31, 2025, a District Court Judge sentenced Vasquez-Gomez to time served since his arrest on September 8, 2025. The judge also ordered that Vasquez-Gomez be transferred to immigration authorities for possible deportation.

U.S. Attorney Sean Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentence. The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tandice Blackwood.

"This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN)," according to a statement from officials.
