Honduran national sentenced for illegal reentry after multiple deportations

Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice

A Honduran national living in Fall River, Massachusetts, was sentenced in federal court for unlawfully reentering the United States after previously being deported. Denis Aguirre-Murillo, 40, received a four-month prison sentence followed by two years of supervised release from U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin on November 12, 2025. Upon completion of his sentence, Aguirre-Murillo will be subject to deportation.

Aguirre-Murillo pleaded guilty in September 2025 to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien after being indicted by a federal grand jury in July 2025. He has been removed from the United States and sent back to Honduras three times: in July 2007, March 2016, and January 2021. Authorities discovered that Aguirre-Murillo had returned to the country illegally after his last removal when he was arrested under an alias in Fall River on May 4, 2024. The charges included intimidation and rape; the rape charge was later amended to indecent assault and battery.

Following his arrest, immigration authorities placed a detainer on Aguirre-Murillo. Despite this action, he was released from state custody without notification on February 19, 2025. He was subsequently found and taken into immigration custody on May 29, 2025.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley stated: "United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston made the announcement." Assistant U.S. Attorney Mackenzie A. Queenin prosecuted the case.
