A Plano resident has been sentenced to over 16 years in federal prison following his guilty plea to child exploitation charges, according to an announcement from Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs for the Eastern District of Texas.
Ashley Blaine Brooks, age 57, admitted guilt to one count of receiving child pornography. U.S. District Judge Robert W. Schroeder III handed down a sentence of 200 months in federal prison on October 21, 2025.
Court records show that Brooks was a registered sex offender living in Plano when detectives with the Plano Police Department discovered he was distributing child pornography using his computer and a peer-to-peer file sharing platform during a compliance check related to his registry status.
The investigation was conducted by the Plano Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa Miller prosecuted the case.
"This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims," according to information provided by authorities.
