St. Charles man pleads guilty to fatal shooting during marijuana deal

A man from St. Charles, Missouri, has pleaded guilty to charges related to a fatal shooting during a marijuana transaction in 2023.

Trevon Carson, 31, entered his plea on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis. He admitted to one count of conspiracy to distribute marijuana and one count of discharging a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime resulting in death.

According to court documents, Carson accompanied another individual who intended to purchase and then resell marijuana on May 25, 2023. The meeting took place in an alley behind the 4800 block of Farlin Avenue in St. Louis. The victim, who was with the seller, carried an AR-style firearm. Carson stated that he feared the victim would use the weapon, so he exited his vehicle and fatally shot the victim before taking the gun. Carson then drove away with the buyer.

As part of his plea agreement, prosecutors have agreed to request a sentence of 20 years in prison.

The case was investigated by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Finlen is handling prosecution duties.
