Sioux City man pleads guilty to conspiracy for distributing methamphetamine

Timothy T. Duax U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa

Todd Babb, a 62-year-old resident of Sioux City, Iowa, pleaded guilty on November 19, 2025, in federal court to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

According to evidence presented at the plea hearing, Babb had two prior felony drug convictions—one in Iowa District Court and another in Federal Court. He admitted that from 2018 through August 2024, he worked with others to distribute more than 1,500 grams of methamphetamine in the Sioux City area. Law enforcement officers found over $3,000 and a quarter pound of methamphetamine during a search of his home; this amount was intended for further distribution. Authorities also seized about one pound of methamphetamine from a vehicle parked outside his residence.

Babb will be sentenced by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand after completion of a presentence report. He is currently held by the United States Marshal while awaiting sentencing. The charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and could result in up to life imprisonment, as well as a fine up to $20 million and at least ten years of supervised release following any prison term.
