A Danbury resident, Jairo Abreu, 33, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison and one year of supervised release for trafficking fentanyl. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport.
Authorities stated that an investigation conducted by the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force and the Hartford Police Department found that Abreu was distributing fentanyl in Hartford. He was initially arrested on state charges on October 17, 2023. After his arrest, law enforcement searched his home in Danbury and discovered about 2.8 kilograms of fentanyl along with roughly 2,000 wax sleeves containing the drug.
Abreu was taken into federal custody on February 23, 2024, and later pleaded guilty on April 25, 2024.
Currently released on a $100,000 bond, Abreu is scheduled to report to prison on January 15.
The investigation involved several agencies: the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force; police departments from Hartford, East Hartford, Manchester, New Britain, and West Hartford; as well as the Connecticut State Police and Connecticut Department of Correction.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sean P. Mahard and Reed Durham prosecuted the case through the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Program.
