The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is preparing for what it expects to be the busiest Thanksgiving travel period in 15 years. The agency anticipates managing more than 360,000 flights during the holiday timeframe, with Tuesday, November 25 projected as the peak day, when over 52,000 flights are scheduled.

FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford acknowledged the efforts of agency staff in handling the expected surge in air traffic. “Thanks to the dedication of our air traffic controllers and every FAA employee, we are ready for the holiday rush and take pride in helping travelers reach their friends and families during this important time of year,” Bedford said. “I am deeply grateful to our entire FAA team. Even through a period of record-high traffic, their unwavering commitment keeps the system running safely.”

To manage increased flight volume, air traffic controllers will implement various strategies to maintain safety throughout national airspace. The FAA has updated its Holiday Travel page with advice on planning ahead and packing safely. The site also provides information about a new Department of Transportation campaign focused on promoting civility among travelers and encourages passengers to remain patient, be kind, and follow instructions from crewmembers.
