Since President Trump began his term, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reported a significant rise in assaults against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) law enforcement officers. According to new data released by DHS, there were 238 reported assaults on ICE officers from January 21, 2025, through November 21, 2025. This marks a more than 1,150% increase compared to the same period in 2024 under the Biden administration, when only 19 such incidents were recorded.
DHS officials have expressed concern about this surge in violence. "After months of Democrat politicians comparing ICE to Nazis, the gestapo, slave patrols, and even encouraging illegal aliens to resist arrest, our brave ICE law enforcement have been assaulted 238 times," said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. "Our law enforcement officers have had Molotov cocktails and rocks thrown at them, been shot at, had cars used as weapons against them, and been physically assaulted. Sanctuary politicians need to tone the rhetoric down before a law enforcement officer is killed. They should be thanking these brave law enforcement officers who risk their lives every single day to arrest pedophiles, rapists, murderers, gang members, and terrorists from our neighborhoods."
Over the past ten months, federal officers across DHS agencies have experienced various forms of violence during arrests and other operations. These include physical attacks such as hitting, spitting, kicking and biting; as well as more severe actions like vehicle ramming and gunfire.
Several recent incidents illustrate this trend:
- An FBI Most Wanted suspect was arrested after a joint investigation with ICE and other law enforcement partners.
- A criminal illegal alien associated with the Tren de Aragua gang was apprehended for attempting to murder an ICE officer.
- The DHS issued statements following targeted attacks on an ICE facility in Dallas and after an officer was injured when struck by a car driven by an illegal alien trying to avoid arrest.
- Law enforcement faced attacks while arresting two individuals charged with assaulting DHS officers at a California pot facility.
- Another incident involved an illegal alien being arrested for throwing a Molotov cocktail at law enforcement.
The DHS maintains that these assaults target ICE officers because of their official duties and warns that continued escalation could lead to fatal outcomes.
