Robert J. "Bob" Troester U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma
Randall Joseph Williams, a 56-year-old resident of Oklahoma City, has been sentenced to 40 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm while being subject to protective orders. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
According to public records, on April 12, 2025, officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to a disturbance at a home involving a firearm. Officers learned that Williams had threatened several people’s lives, including those of his family members, while in possession of a gun. Williams allowed officers to search his vehicle, where they found the firearm. Records indicate that he was under multiple protective orders, including one from the Oklahoma County District Court stating he posed a credible threat to the safety of a child and was barred from owning firearms.
A federal Grand Jury indicted Williams on May 20, 2025, for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He pleaded guilty on June 18, admitting he possessed the weapon despite an active protective order against him.
At his sentencing on November 24, U.S. District Judge Patrick R. Wyrick imposed the prison term along with two years of supervised release following incarceration. Judge Wyrick stated that the sentence was necessary “to protect the public, promote respect for the law, and deter future criminal conduct by Williams.”
The case resulted from an investigation conducted by both the Oklahoma City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary E. Walters prosecuted.
This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America (OTBA), which aims to combat illegal immigration and organized crime while protecting communities from violent offenses nationwide. The case also falls under “Operation 922,” an initiative in the Western District of Oklahoma focused on prosecuting federal crimes related to domestic violence.
