The House Appropriations Committee has outlined its progress as it prepares for the fiscal year 2026 (FY26) legislative process. The committee highlighted a series of actions aimed at ensuring responsible budgeting and oversight.

According to the committee, members held nearly 70 budget and oversight hearings across all 12 subcommittees to establish priorities and ensure accountability in crafting the FY26 bills. The committee also reported more than 91 hours of markups, representing a significant increase compared to the previous fiscal year.

The statement from the committee noted, "No matter the challenge, tight calendar timeline, or work ahead of us, our members delivered through discourse, targeted funding, and America First priorities. Step by step, we’ve carved out a path to regular order, restored accountability, and set the table for the remaining FY26 bills."

Twelve appropriations bills have advanced through the full committee so far this cycle. Three full-year spending bills have already been enacted by President Trump. These measures are described as benefiting veterans, farmers, families, and Congress operations.

The committee further stated that over 60% of discretionary spending has passed on the House floor. This action has initiated conference negotiations with the Senate for the first time since fiscal year 2019.

Reflecting on recent events in Congress, the statement said: "Ending the harmful Democrat-led shutdown that unleashed chaos across the nation, ensuring a line-by-line, transparent process can continue without a last-minute, bloated Christmas omnibus."

The House Appropriations Committee emphasized its commitment to what it describes as conservative stewardship amid an increase in amendment attempts and roll call votes during this session.
