Chairman Garbarino responds to shooting of National Guard members in Washington, D.C

House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Andrew R. Garbarino (R-NY) released a statement following the shooting of two members of the West Virginia National Guard in Washington, D.C. The incident occurred while the service members were performing their duties in the capital.

“Today’s shooting of two National Guardsmen is a heartbreaking and unacceptable tragedy for our nation. These brave service members were shot while protecting our capital and the American people. I am in close contact with DHS regarding the ongoing investigation, and I am confident our law enforcement agencies will bring swift accountability to those responsible.

“This incident is a reminder of the increasing threats facing those who stand on the front lines keeping our country safe. As we pray for them and their families, we must also recommit to protecting those who protect us,” Garbarino stated.
