The Ambriola Company has announced a recall of certain cheese products after routine testing found Listeria monocytogenes at its West Caldwell, New Jersey facility. The bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms like fever, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are at risk for miscarriages or stillbirths if infected.
No illnesses have been reported so far. Customers who experience symptoms of listeria infection are advised to contact their healthcare provider.
The recalled cheese products were distributed nationwide to retail stores and distributors between November 3 and November 20, 2025. The recall also includes additional cheese items processed at the same facility as a precautionary measure. No other Ambriola, Locatelli, Member’s Mark, Pinna, or Boar’s Head products are part of this recall.
Customers who bought the affected products should not eat them and are instructed to either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. For further information, customers can contact Ambriola at 1-800-962-8224 during business hours.
Phil Marfuggi, chief executive officer of Ambriola Company said: “We take food safety very seriously and immediately alerted stores and distributors to remove the affected products from shelves. We are working closely with the FDA and continuing to test our products and facilities to fully understand the situation.”
Ambriola has stopped production and distribution of the affected cheeses while it reviews sanitation and food safety procedures.
