Silvestri Sweets recalls holiday bark due to undeclared allergens

Silvestri Sweets Inc., based in Geneva, Illinois, has announced a voluntary recall of its 5-ounce Choceur branded Holiday Barks due to undeclared allergens. The products affected are Cookie Butter Holiday Bark and Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark.

The Cookie Butter Holiday Bark may contain pecans that are not listed on the packaging. Individuals with pecan allergies could face serious or potentially life-threatening reactions if they consume this product. The Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark may contain undeclared wheat, posing similar risks for those with wheat allergies.

These recalled items were distributed nationwide through Aldi grocery stores. The Cookie Butter Holiday Bark is sold in 5 oz. Choceur stand-up pouch bags with lot number 29225 and a best by date of May 2026 printed on the back. The Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark comes in similar packaging with the same lot number but a best by date of August 2026.

No illnesses related to these products have been reported so far. According to Silvestri Sweets, "The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark had been packaged in Cookie Butter Holiday Bark packages resulting in undeclared pecan, and that the Cookie Butter Holiday Bark has been packaged in Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark packages resulting in undeclared wheat." The company further stated that "subsequent investigation indicates the problem may have been caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging process."
