Dulce man receives seven-year sentence for assault by strangulation

A Dulce resident, Kayiliab Haines, was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for assault by strangulation. The incident occurred between April 7 and April 8, 2024, when Haines, a member of the Jicarilla Apache Indian Tribe, assaulted a woman identified as Jane Doe.

Haines entered a guilty plea to the charge of assault by strangulation. Following his release from prison, he will be placed on supervised release for three years. Federal inmates are not eligible for parole.

Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison announced the sentence. The case was investigated by the Jicarilla Apache Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meg Tomlinson.
