A man from Pojoaque has admitted guilt to sexually abusing a child over several months, according to an announcement made by Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office.

Court documents show that Alexander John Duran, 31, who is an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Pojoaque, engaged in a sexual act with a child under the age of 12 between December 2021 and February 2022.

Duran pleaded guilty to abusive sexual contact. Upon conviction, he will serve 14 years in federal prison. After his release, Duran will face at least five years of supervised release up to life and must register as a sex offender.

The case was investigated by the Santa Fe Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with help from the Pueblo of Pojoaque Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Probasco is prosecuting the case under Project Safe Childhood. This nationwide initiative was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to address child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating efforts among federal, state, and local agencies to locate offenders and assist victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at Justice.gov/PSC.
