A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to attempting to send obscene material to someone he believed was a minor, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson.
Mark Brooks, also known as “Baby Nu,” age 35, entered his plea before United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe on November 20, 2025. He admitted guilt to the charge of attempted transfer of obscene matter to a minor under Title 18, United States Code, Section 1470.
Court documents reveal that on or about May 1, 2025, Brooks contacted an FBI undercover employee who posed online as a fifteen-year-old girl named “Ava.” After learning "Ava" was only fifteen years old, Brooks continued communicating with her in a sexually explicit manner. He sent multiple videos of himself engaging in sexual acts and discussed meeting in person for sexual contact.
On May 13, 2025, Brooks suggested meeting at a restaurant near his home before returning together to his residence. Law enforcement arrested him as he walked from his residence toward the restaurant.
Brooks faces up to ten years in prison, three years of supervised release, a fine up to $250,000 and a $100 special assessment fee. He may also be required to register as a sex offender. Sentencing is set for February 12, 2026.
The case falls under Project Safe Childhood—a Department of Justice initiative started in May 2006—aimed at fighting child exploitation and abuse by coordinating efforts among federal, state and local agencies.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Louisiana State Police for their work on the case. Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Ginsberg is prosecuting.
