The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced 100 additional environmental accomplishments, including ten in the Southeast region, as part of its ongoing efforts under President Donald Trump's administration. This brings the total to 300 environmental achievements since Trump took office.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin expressed enthusiasm about these developments, stating, "We are thrilled to announce another 100 top accomplishments from the last 100 days in our mission to meet our statutory duties and defend human health and environmental quality." He emphasized the agency's commitment to being effective stewards of the environment while contributing to what he described as "Powering the Great American Comeback."
Kevin McOmber, Regional Administrator for Region 4, highlighted several key achievements in the Southeast. These include distributing $86.2 million in Hurricane Helene recovery funds for debris management and property reuse evaluation. The EPA also removed over 1,800 pounds of contamination at a Superfund site in Tampa, Florida, and completed significant cleanups at other sites across Tennessee and Florida.
Other notable efforts involved providing risk assessment training in South Carolina and enhancing partnerships with local governments in Florida for infrastructure improvements. The agency also collaborated with FEMA on flood risk reduction projects following Hurricane Helene's impact.
Additionally, the EPA worked with the Department of Energy on a land lease project aimed at redeveloping a Superfund site in Kentucky. The agency completed a residential cleanup addressing PCB-contaminated soil at properties on another Superfund site in Kentucky.
These actions build upon previous initiatives by Administrator Zeldin during Trump's first year in office. The EPA continues to focus on protecting human health and the environment through policies that aim to reduce costs, promote energy independence, reform permitting processes, and support technological advancements.
