On December 6, 2025, the President of the United States issued a message marking the eighth anniversary of the official recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The statement recalled the proclamation signed on December 6, 2017, during his first term in office, which also included relocating the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem.

The President described this move as “a transformative step forward in the pursuit of peace in the Middle East.” He reiterated his administration’s commitment to advancing peace and stability both regionally and globally.

The message highlighted Jerusalem’s significance for Jews, Christians, and Muslims due to its historical and religious importance. The President noted that while Congress had previously supported recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital, earlier leaders did not act on it out of concern for regional peace efforts. He stated: “Yet delaying the recognition brought us no closer to a lasting peace agreement and showed that repeating the same approach to old challenges produces only the same failed results.”

He continued: “In recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moving our embassy to that beautiful city, we acknowledged the rightful capital that stands at the heart of Israel’s traditions, government, and heritage—and now we stand on the doorstep of one of the greatest diplomatic achievements in history as a strong, durable, and everlasting peace is emerging across the Middle East.”

The President also referenced several initiatives from his first term aimed at promoting regional peace. These included brokering what he called “the historic Abraham Accords,” acknowledging Israeli sovereignty over certain territories such as the Golan Heights, and supporting agreements between Israel and Arab-Muslim countries.

Since returning to office as president again—the 47th—he said his administration has continued these policies with an emphasis on leadership and determination in international affairs. According to him: “I am proud to have led a significant peace agreement between the State of Israel and Hamas to end more than 2 years of profound suffering and loss, secure the full liberation of all hostages, and deliver humanitarian relief to the communities affected by this deadly war.” He described this development as “a massive leap toward an enduring peace for the Israeli and Palestinian people—one that ensures security, brings stability, and offers hope for generations to come.”

The message concluded with a reaffirmation: “As President, I will always work tirelessly to bring peace to conflicts in every region and on every continent—and my Administration will never waver in promoting a foreign policy of peace through strength.”
