A federal grand jury has indicted Juan E. Acosta Gomez, a 21-year-old Dominican national residing in Providence, on charges of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM), according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.
Acosta Gomez is currently detained and will appear in federal court at a date to be determined. The indictment alleges that he downloaded CSAM.
Charging documents state that the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force received a report in October 2025 about disturbing images being uploaded to devices linked to Acosta Gomez. Federal authorities executed a search warrant at his residence on November 4, 2025, and investigators found numerous images and videos containing CSAM on his personal devices.
"A federal criminal indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty," the U.S. Attorney's Office stated.
Assistant United States Attorney John P. McAdams is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Rhode Island ICAC Task Force.
The prosecution falls under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Department of Justice’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section that coordinates efforts among federal, state, and local agencies to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
