Senate Aging Committee to examine economic impact of seniors in upcoming hearing

Senator Rick Scott, chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, and Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand will convene a hearing titled “Aging with Purpose: The Positive Impact of Seniors in Today’s Economy” on Wednesday, December 10. The session aims to highlight the contributions that older Americans make to the nation’s economy through employment, caregiving, volunteering, and education as they transition into retirement.

The hearing will feature testimony from several expert witnesses. Jon Taffer, Chairman and CEO of Taffer Dynamics and host of “Bar Rescue,” Dr. Paul Broadie II, President of Santa Fe College, Rachel Greszler, Senior Research Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, and Christine Osasu, Director of the Senior Community Service Employment Program at Legacy Link are scheduled to speak.

According to the committee’s announcement: “The hearing will highlight the vital contributions older Americans make to the U.S. economy through work, caregiving, volunteerism, education, and more as they embrace retirement and begin a new, purpose-driven chapter in their lives. Expert witnesses will discuss how aging Americans are strengthening both local communities and the broader economy and will explore strategies to better support and leverage their skills and experiences.”

The event is set for 3:30 PM ET in room SH-216 of the Hart Senate Office Building. A live broadcast will be available online.
