U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that more than 10,000 arrests of individuals in the country illegally have been made in Los Angeles since June 2025. The operation was carried out by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

According to DHS, those arrested include people convicted of serious crimes such as murder, kidnapping, sexual offenses, and armed carjacking. The department stated that the arrests were made despite resistance from rioters who reportedly assaulted law enforcement officers and tried to block arrests.

“In the face of violence from rioters and demonization by sanctuary politicians, DHS law enforcement has made over 10,000 arrests in Los Angeles since operations began in June. Some of the most heinous criminal illegal aliens arrested include murderers, kidnappers, sexual predators, and armed carjackers,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass failed the people of California. They let these criminals roam free. Thanks to our brave law enforcement, California is safer with these thugs off their streets. Instead of thanking our law enforcement for removing criminals from their communities, Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass repeatedly demonized our brave law enforcement during these operations.”

The agency provided details on several individuals arrested during this period:

- Alireza Hashemi from Iran was convicted of rape, aggravated assault, domestic violence, burglary, and driving under the influence.

- Andres Velasquez-Ocampo from Mexico was convicted of armed carjacking, vehicle theft, and vandalism.

- Juan Carlos Tamayo from Mexico was convicted of homicide and multiple counts related to attempted murder.

- Ambartsoum Pogosium from Armenia faced convictions including kidnapping, homicide, fraud, burglary, larceny, and forgery.

- Rene Reyes-Miranda from Cuba was convicted on charges ranging from a sex offense against a child to property crimes.

- Akop Jack Kantrozyan from Armenia had convictions for identity theft as well as several other financial crimes.

- Everado Garcia Martinez from Mexico faced convictions for vehicle theft and drug-related offenses.

- Jose Manuel Perfecto Hernandez Corrales from Mexico was convicted for attempting to import methamphetamine into the U.S., among other charges.

- Yonic Telles-Sosa from Mexico has been removed five times previously; his record includes robbery and aggravated sexual assault of a child.

- Mohamed Chekchekani from Kenya had convictions involving racketeering activities.

The operation comes amid ongoing debates about local policies toward federal immigration enforcement in cities like Los Angeles.
