A Chicago man has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison after pleading guilty to illegally possessing a firearm and shooting another individual in the Noble Square neighborhood.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois, Angel Sosa, 27, possessed a loaded semiautomatic handgun with an extended magazine on June 8, 2021. Sosa fired more than a dozen shots at a man near North Noble and West Walton Streets, seriously wounding him. The victim survived the incident.
Chicago Police arrested Sosa close to the scene, and he has remained in custody since his arrest. At the time of the shooting, Sosa was on parole for a previous firearm-related felony conviction and had multiple prior felony convictions.
Sosa pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of illegal possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon. On December 4, 2025, U.S. District Judge Martha M. Pacold handed down the ten-year sentence.
The announcement came from Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Douglas S. DePodesta, Special Agent-in-Charge of the FBI’s Chicago Field Office. The Chicago Police Department also contributed to the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Branka Cimesa represented the government.
