St. Louis County man sentenced for shooting girlfriend and illegal firearm possession

A St. Louis County man has been sentenced to 54 months in prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of firearms following a shooting incident involving his girlfriend.

According to court documents, Demetrius D. Vaughn, 31, admitted that on May 6, 2024, he fired multiple shots from the balcony of his apartment during an argument with his then-girlfriend. The Saint Louis County Police Department reported that Vaughn shot at his girlfriend and her friends, hitting his girlfriend in both legs. Officers arrested Vaughn later the same day and recovered two handguns from him; one of the weapons was found to be stolen. As a convicted felon, Vaughn is not allowed to possess firearms.

The case was investigated by the Saint Louis County Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Catherine Hoag handled the prosecution.
