On Sunday, December 7, 2025, Timothy Sowinski was found unresponsive at the United States Penitentiary (USP) Florence in Colorado. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m., and responding staff immediately began life-saving procedures. Emergency medical services were called to assist, but despite these efforts, Sowinski was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been informed about the situation. No employees or other inmates were harmed during the incident, and there was no threat to public safety. Sowinski, aged 57, had been serving a 13-month sentence for a supervised release violation from the District of Western Pennsylvania. He had been held at USP Florence since September 29, 2025.
