On December 19, 2025, Robert James Turner was found unresponsive at the United States Penitentiary (USP) Canaan in Waymart, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred around 4:05 p.m. Prison staff initiated life-saving measures and called for emergency medical services (EMS). Despite their efforts, Turner was pronounced dead by EMS personnel.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been informed about the situation. According to officials, no employees or other inmates were harmed during the incident, and there was no threat to public safety. Turner, aged 57, had been serving a life sentence for first-degree murder and an additional 41-month sentence for possessing a shank while incarcerated. He had been at USP Canaan since March 17, 2025.
