House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Andrew R. Garbarino (R-NY) released a statement today addressing the arrest of Nicolás Maduro. In his remarks, Garbarino described Maduro as "a narcoterrorist and illegitimate leader who has empowered the designated foreign terrorist organization Cartel de los Soles—will rightfully stand trial for facilitating the trafficking of deadly drugs across our borders that have killed hundreds of thousands of Americans."
Garbarino also commended U.S. Armed Forces and federal law enforcement personnel involved in executing the warrant for Maduro's arrest. "I applaud the men and women of our Armed Forces and federal law enforcement for executing a warrant to bring justice for these families and fulfill our responsibility to keep Americans safe," he said.
He concluded by expressing interest in further information from federal authorities about ongoing efforts against transnational criminal organizations: "I look forward to receiving updates from the Trump administration on the next steps and learning more about its whole-of-government efforts to disrupt the operations of transnational criminal organizations and end the deadly flow of drugs into our country."
