President Donald J. Trump has signed a Presidential Memorandum ordering the withdrawal of the United States from 66 international organizations. The decision was made on the grounds that these organizations no longer align with American interests.
The White House stated, "President Trump is ending U.S. participation in international organizations that undermine America’s independence and waste taxpayer dollars on ineffective or hostile agendas." According to the administration, this move is intended to restore American sovereignty and prioritize national interests in global affairs.
"President Trump has consistently fought to protect U.S. sovereignty and ensure international engagements serve American interests," the statement added.
The action follows a pattern of policies under President Trump aimed at reevaluating and reducing U.S. involvement in multilateral groups when those memberships are viewed as inconsistent with domestic priorities or fiscal responsibility.
