Maine man sentenced to five years for illegal firearm possession

Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice

A Maine resident has been sentenced in federal court in Boston for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Kirk Wilson, 46, received a five-year prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release. The sentencing took place on January 7, 2026, with U.S. District Court Chief Judge Indira Talwani presiding.

Wilson pleaded guilty in September 2025 to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was charged in March 2024.

According to authorities, Wilson was discovered unconscious inside a vehicle stopped on the side of the road in Littleton shortly after 1 a.m. on December 14, 2023. A search led to the discovery of a Taurus International .22-caliber handgun loaded with eight rounds in his pocket. Due to multiple previous felony convictions—including assaulting a pregnant person (2008), trafficking fentanyl powder or methamphetamine and alprazolam (2018), and unlawful trafficking and possession of scheduled drugs including fentanyl powder (2023)—Wilson is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The offense carries a maximum penalty of up to fifteen years in prison, three years supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Sentences are determined by federal district court judges based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley stated: "United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Thomas Greco, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division made the announcement." Valuable assistance came from the Littleton Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Maynard prosecuted the case.
