A Bridgeport man has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for his role in methamphetamine trafficking, according to an announcement from David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Michael Mihalko, 42, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford and will also serve three years of supervised release.

Court documents show that in 2022, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service began investigating a series of parcels suspected of containing controlled substances mailed to Joseph Wilk Jr.'s residence and a P.O. Box in Norwich. On November 21, 2022, investigators searched a USPS Priority Express parcel sent from California to the P.O. Box and found over one pound of pure methamphetamine inside. Authorities determined that Mihalko had been tracking this package.

On December 8, 2022, Wilk collected the package and returned home before police arrived at his residence. After consenting to a search, officers seized approximately 2.575 kilograms of methamphetamine, about 16 grams of ecstasy, narcotics processing materials, two handguns, and $1,740 in cash.

Investigators learned that several parcels believed to contain narcotics were sent to Wilk between May and December 2022. After receiving methamphetamine shipments by mail, Wilk delivered some drugs to Mihalko—who was then living near Boston—and distributed others to customers in Southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island. During interviews with law enforcement officials, Mihalko admitted responsibility for sending both the intercepted parcel and several others.

Mihalko pleaded guilty on October 12, 2023, to conspiracy charges related to distributing and possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute. He has been detained since September 15, 2025 after violating conditions of his release; his bond was subsequently revoked.

Wilk also pleaded guilty to similar charges and has already been sentenced.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Narcotics and Bulk Cash Trafficking Task Force along with the Norwich Police Department. The task force includes personnel from multiple agencies: U.S. Postal Inspection Service; U.S. Postal Service – Office of Inspector General; as well as Hartford, Plainville and Meriden Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher J. Lembo and Jocelyn Courtney Kaoutzanis prosecuted the case.
