Ardmore man receives federal prison sentence for illegal firearm possession

Jacob Layton Earley, a 22-year-old resident of Ardmore, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to twenty-eight months in federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition while prohibited from doing so. The sentencing was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The case began after an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. On December 21, 2022, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Earley’s residence. During the search, they found a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic rifle chambered in 5.56X45mm with a magazine containing 28 rounds of .223 REM caliber ammunition. Officers also located an additional 100 rounds of .223 REM caliber ammunition in his bedroom.

At the time of the search, Earley was under a protection order issued by the Chickasaw Nation District Court that barred him from owning or possessing firearms. Despite being notified about this restriction, he was found in possession of both the rifle and ammunition.

Earley pleaded guilty to one count of Possession of Firearm and Ammunition by Prohibited Person on March 18, 2025.

Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the sentencing hearing in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Earley will remain in custody with the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transferred to a facility designated by the United States Bureau of Prisons to serve his sentence without parole.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lewis M. Reagan prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
