Americans lost almost $13 billion to fraud in 2024, according to data from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Imposter scams continue to be the most frequently reported type of fraud, with increasingly complex schemes involving individuals posing as government or business representatives.

In response to this trend, experts from the FTC, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Social Security Administration (SSA) will host a webinar to discuss common government imposter scams. The event aims to inform the public about these fraudulent activities and provide free resources for prevention.

The webinar is scheduled for January 21, 2026, at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Interested participants can join online via https://ftc.zoomgov.com/j/1608587778?pwd=RzhHKlbmzNeohHQOuS8Uk3x78mHnJR.1 using Meeting ID 160 858 7778 and Passcode 737804. Phone access is also available through several numbers, including toll-free options.

According to the FTC, imposter scams remain a significant threat as criminals develop more sophisticated tactics that target people’s savings.

"Join experts from the FTC, SEC, and SSA for a discussion about the most common government imposter scams and learn about free resources to help you avoid these scams," organizers stated.
