U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Robyn Argote Brooks, a Cuban national in the country illegally, following an incident in San Antonio, Texas, on January 13. According to ICE, Brooks used his vehicle to ram two ICE vehicles during a targeted stop intended for his arrest.

During the attempted arrest, officers ordered Brooks to exit his car. He refused and instead reversed at high speed, nearly hitting an officer before crashing into an ICE vehicle. He then accelerated forward into another ICE vehicle, injuring the officer inside. Officers were able to detain him after the collisions.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin commented on the situation: "One of our officers was injured in this vehicle attack and we are praying for him, his health, and his family. As sanctuary politicians have encouraged illegal aliens to evade arrest, they have created an environment that incites violence against our law enforcement," said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin."Our ICE officers are facing a 3,200% increase in vehicle attacks against them and a more than 1,300% increase in assaults against them. Secretary Noem has been clear: anyone who assaults law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

ICE reported that Brooks entered the United States using the CBP One app in 2024 under current federal policies allowing entry for over one million individuals without thorough vetting.

The agency also noted that from January 21, 2025 through January 7, 2026 there were 66 vehicular attacks on ICE officers compared with just two during the same period a year earlier—a reported increase of approximately 3,200%.

The incident comes amid ongoing debate about so-called sanctuary policies which some officials claim contribute to increased resistance toward federal immigration enforcement efforts.
