Under Secretary Hooker to visit Nigeria, Oman, Bahrain, and Italy for diplomatic talks

Under Secretary of State Allison Hooker is set to visit Abuja, Nigeria; Muscat, Oman; Manama, Bahrain; and Rome, Italy from January 21 to 29.

During her time in Nigeria, Hooker will lead the U.S. delegation at the U.S.-Nigeria Joint Working Group. Her agenda includes supporting efforts to protect Christian communities, countering terrorism, and promoting expanded investment opportunities for U.S. businesses.

In Oman and Bahrain, Hooker will head two separate strategic dialogues aimed at strengthening cooperation on security matters as well as economic and cultural interests.

While in Rome, she plans to meet with counterparts to discuss major international issues including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, developments in Venezuela, and efforts toward peace in the Middle East. She will also hold meetings with United Nations agencies based in Rome such as the World Food Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization. The discussions are expected to focus on oversight of U.S.-funded assistance programs and exploring new agricultural trade opportunities for American farmers.
