Worcester pharmacy settles false claims allegations with $750,000 payment

Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice

Trang Pharmacy, located in Worcester, Massachusetts, has agreed to pay $750,000 to settle allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by billing Medicare for medications it did not have in stock. According to the settlement agreement, Trang admitted that from January 1, 2016, through January 13, 2023, it submitted claims to Medicare Part D for reimbursement on medications without proof of purchase. The government alleges these were false claims for drugs not dispensed to Medicare beneficiaries.

The case was resolved through collaboration between the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts and the Justice Department’s Civil Division, Commercial Litigation Branch, Fraud Section.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley announced the settlement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Sharobem from the Affirmative Civil Enforcement Unit managed the case with support from the Civil Fraud Branch of the U.S. Department of Justice.
