Dylan Johnson has been appointed as the new Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs, with the appointment set to take effect on January 26, 2026.
As Assistant Secretary, Johnson will head the Bureau of Global Public Affairs. The position includes responsibility for overseeing strategic communications, public messaging, and engagement with both domestic and international media for the Department of State.
Johnson has a background in strategic communications, public affairs, and national security. He is currently serving as Special Assistant to the President and Assistant White House Communications Director, where he is responsible for national security communications.
Previously, Johnson was Deputy Communications Director for President Donald J. Trump’s 2024 campaign. His earlier experience also includes roles in the first Trump administration within the Office of Presidential Advance and in the Office of the Governor of Missouri.
Alongside his new role at the Department of State, Johnson will continue to manage communications for the National Security Council at the White House.
"This role provides an opportunity to strengthen our engagement with global audiences," said Johnson regarding his appointment.
