Springfield man receives prison sentence for drug trafficking convictions

A Springfield man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for drug trafficking offenses, according to an announcement from federal authorities.

Marcus Hicks, 46, received his sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni and will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term. In September 2025, Hicks was convicted on charges including possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of crack cocaine, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. His indictment by a federal grand jury occurred in September 2023.

Authorities said that on November 21, 2022, Hicks had in his possession 97 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of crack cocaine, and two and one-half pounds of marijuana intended for distribution.

"United States Attorney Leah B. Foley, Jarod A. Forget, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration in New England, Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan and Superintendent Lawrence Akers of the Springfield Police Department made the announcement today." Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd E. Newhouse prosecuted the case.
