A Harlem man has been sentenced to two years in prison and five years of supervised release for sexually abusing a minor on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, according to U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme.

Ivan Daniel Raining Bird, 35, pleaded guilty in September 2025 to one count of sexual abuse of a minor. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the sentencing.

Court documents state that the victim, referred to as John Doe and about 13 years old at the time, received a Facebook message from someone using the name “Ivey,” who appeared to be a woman. The person behind the account was later identified as Ivan Raining Bird, then in his late twenties. After ongoing communication, Raining Bird invited Doe to his house.

When Doe arrived, he discovered that Raining Bird was a man dressed as a woman. They shared substances together before Raining Bird performed oral sex on Doe. The assaults continued over several months.

Following Doe’s disclosure of the abuse, the FBI conducted an investigation and interviewed Raining Bird. He admitted to sharing drugs with teenagers and acknowledged knowing that John Doe was a minor whom he sexually assaulted multiple times.

The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office with investigations carried out by both the FBI and Fort Belknap Law Enforcement Services.
